I spent a beautiful, although windy, Saturday in Carytown. My first stop was Perception Organic Spa for a bit of self TLC. Continue reading “Lunch at Sugar & Twine”

New Year, New Moon and Afton Mountain…
Can you call it a tradition on only the second time?
Well tradition or not, we rang in 2014 in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Afton Mountain to be precise in a cozy little cabin.
My husband and I headed out of Richmond and towards those gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains; first stop, The Southern Way Café in Crozét.
Dinner at Tio Pablo!
Friday night in the bottom and we were in the mood for something authentic. I remembered hearing a lot about this little place over by the 17th Street Farmer’s Market, called “Tio Pablo”. A taqueria and tequila bar by acclaimed owner of both Lulu’s and Millie’s, Paul Keevil. My husband and I both agreed a little fine tequila and tacos sounded mighty good!
Day-Trippin’ at Starr Hill Brewery
Seeing as one of the best breweries in the country is less than a 2 hour drive from home, we had a full weekend planned!
Vinaceous Raconteur Cabernet Sauvignon
I love a rich, bold red! Lately, the Cabernet Sauvignon is my wine of choice. I stumbled upon my new obsession at a local quick mart on Hugenot Road, of all places. The Raconteur Cabernet Sauvignon from the South Australia company called Vinaceous is simply a delight to pair with a meal or a snack.
I am in no way a true connoisseur of wines, although I would trade my day job for a chance to work as a sommelier. I do, however, know what I like in a wine. In a red I really enjoy a bit of sweet in the tannin bite that this cabernet delivers. Paired with a medium rare strip steak just off the grill and you have before you a meal that will know your socks off!
